The Authority Circle is a meeting format. This meeting format is used when the following goals and objectives are desired:
- The organization is seeking a rapid, genuine and lasting Agile adoption or similar change, in pursuit of improvement in results
- Leaders are seeking increases in the level of self-management by subordinates, while also retaining control over decisions concerning key constraints and “rules of the road”
- Leaders are seeking direct experience and learning , with respect to how to routinely and effectively trade small but very substantial units of authority, in return for very large increases in employee engagement, self-management, and much higher levels of enterprise performance
- Leaders are seeking a way to signal openness and respect for people across the enterprise, while carefully managing the risk that these signals may be misunderstood in terms of stated boundaries and ground rules
